O’Reilly ist ja bekannt dafür Fachbücher (nach einer gewissen Zeit im Verkauf) unter eine Open Source-Lizenz zu stellen und als OpenBooks zum freien Download oder zum online Lesen anzubieten. Einen anderen Weg geht Greg Kroah-Hartman der Autor von „Linux Kernel in a Nutshell„. Dieser hat sein Werk unter der Creative-Commons-Attribution- ShareAlike-2.5-Lizenz veröffentlicht.
Obwohl ich, stark untertrieben ausgedrückt, die Thematik im Moment noch nicht so ganz durchblicke steht das Buch schon in meiner virtuellen Bibliothek 😉
Der Autor beschreibt die Zielgruppe für sein Buch wie folgt:
This book is intended to cover everything that is needed to know in order to properly build, customize, and install the Linux kernel. No programming experience is needed to understand and use this book.
Some familiarity with how to use Linux, and some basic command-line usage is expected of the reader.This book is not intended to go into the programming aspects of the Linux kernel; there are many other good books listed in the Bibliography that already cover this topic.
